I can honestly say going to Metro Business College was the best decision I have ever made.
At the time when most people in their working careers are starting to see retirement ahead of them, I was laid off due to downsizing. What to do now? I saw the Metro commercial and said “why not? I will check this out.” So I enrolled in the Medical Billing & Coding course and told myself “if I am going back to school at this age I want the degree.” Now 18 months later, I am getting the degree! Onward and upward to better things. Was this easy? No way! Imagine being old enough to be most of these people’s grandmother and in you walk on the first day of the quarter. I was a nervous wreck. Well my fears were soon put to rest; first of all there were several people who were over 30 yrs of age here. Then the staff, this amazing staff, put me at ease right off. The instructors are the best anywhere around. Not only are they your instructors, but also your mentors, your biggest supporters and some even become your friend.
The support staff up front is your first impression of MBC and it is a great one! Ms. Jan is a real treat to get to know, and she runs the school with great efficiency. Denise, Melissa, and Janie are awesome to work with right from the beginning and later on you get to really know them. They truly understand trying to go back to school and handle your home life and work as well. It is a great asset to have that support.
The class sizes are small which is just the right size to get the individual attention a lot of us need, especially since students like me had been out of school 40 years. Ouch! The instructors at Metro really do care if the student succeeds, and they are there to help however they can. You will not get this in a big college setting.
I have had the pleasure and honor of attending MBC, earning my degree and making new friends along the way. What a great place to learn. My degree has a special meaning for me: I was always told “you do not need to go to college; get married, let the man take care of you.” So it truly means the world to me to earn my Associates Degree in Medical Billing & Coding.
